Boothroyd happy at Cobblers players ‘squaring up’ over Chesterfield beating

The Town squad went in at the interval at Chesterfield 3-0 down to a home side who had been rampant in the game’s opening 45 minutes.

It brought to an end a three-game winning streak but results elsewhere were not too damaging for Northampton, who remain just a single point off the npower League Two play-off places.

Boothroyd’s men play host to Burton Albion at Sixfields on Saturday, and the manager will look to nurture the fighting spirit shown behind closed doors at the weekend, while eliminating the complacency and what he described as ‘mental laziness’ that plagued the side in that game.

“A lot of fingers were pointed on Saturday, there was lots of ranting and raving and we had people squaring up to each other in the dressing room,” said the Cobblers boss.

“That was at half-time and I think that’s a good thing, it shows that the team doesn’t want to be average, it doesn’t want to be in the bottom half of the league table and it wants to win games.

“We all want to progress and be better and I need to tell the players what I think behind closed doors.

“It’s not about attitudes because they all have the attitude to work hard, the defeat at Chesterfield was about a mental laziness and a complacency.”
