Akinfenwa, who scored 17 goals for the club during the 2012-13 season, will not be retained at Sixfields alongside six other players.

Fellow strikers Jake Robinson, Lewis Wilson and Louis Moult will also be leaving, as will midfielder Paul Turnbull, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Lincoln City, and defender Nana, who has missed more than a year of action with a knee injury but is understood to be close to securing a move to Yeovil Town.

“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to all of the departing players for their efforts and wish them well in the future careers,” said a club statement.
