Phil Mason says securing the signatures of Howard Forinton and Craig Pearman would be massive for Long Buckby.
But he remains uncertain on whether the former Woodford United duo, who played for Buckby in the recent 2-1 win at high-flying Cogenhoe United, will make the move to Station Road.
Midfield man Pearman was Mason’s captain at Woodford, while striker Forinton also played a key role in the club’s Southern League successes.
And now the Buckby boss is hoping to sort out a permanent reunion with the players, who he feels can have a big impact in the UCL Premier Division.
“Howard came in to help me out against Cogenhoe and I’m trying to get him on board,” said Mason.
“He’s still at Bedworth and it will be about whether we can find the budget to sign him.
“Good players cost a few quid and that’s the same with Craig. I’ve offered him a deal but he’s not quite sure yet.
“If we could get both players in it would be massive for us, but it looks a long shot that they will be available for the game (against Deeping Rangers) this weekend.”
Last weekend Buckby were beaten 2-0 at UCL Premier Division leaders Spalding.
Spalding maintained their perfect start to the season as they completed a double over Long Buckby.
Mason’s side put up stern resistance despite being reduced to 10 men early in the game, Ridge Essilfie the man dismissed for a foul on Andy Tidswell
James Broadbent in the Buckby goal produced a series of impressive goals to keep the Tulips at bay.
In the second half Ben Oddy cleared off the line from Tidswell.
The Tulips had to wait until three minutes before the hour to take the lead with Tidswell’s eighth league goal of the season, a curling 20 yard shot from an Adam Jackson pass.
Spalding only sealed their success in the final minute with Tidswell’s second of the day and ninth of the campaign, a near post header from Lee Beeson’s cross.
