Leaders are left counting the cost of another three points

The largest attendance of the season at Communications Park saw Town comfortably beat Stewarts & Lloyds Corby 4 1 but the victory was marred by two serious injuries to Elliott Lamb Johnson and Jordan Orosz.

Changes to the team that started at Thrapston Town saw Sam Woods come in for player-manager Arron Parkinson and Arron King replace Dean Lukeman. Stan Forskitt made his first start in place of Adam Confue and Lamb Johnson returned to the starting line-up for the first time since early December.

The youthful looking visitors repelled Town’s early advances but found it difficult to retain the ball when moving upfield. Town lost Jordan Orosz following a foul and he was replaced by Scott Sandy. It was later confirmed in hospital that Orosz had broken an ankle.

Town went in front in the 19th minute when Lamb Johnson’s deep corner was met by captain Ross Harris who headed home at the far post.

Three minutes later Town went further ahead when King flicked on a long pass to Sandy and his ball across the six-yard box was met by Phil Cassidy who slid in for his 11th goal of the campaign.

Town created more chances with King forcing a fine save out of Dom Zoggerro and Alfie Taylor firing just over from the resulting corner. King neatly set up Sandy but his shot was blocked for a corner.

Just before halftime, Johnson came off worst in a 50-50 challenge and it was later confirmed in hospital that the tricky winger had broken his leg.

Five minutes after the restart Town extended their lead when Sandy opened his account by flicking on a Dan Childs’ cross.

Dan Rogers reduced the arrears in the 58th minute, finding space in the box to fire home.

Susbtitute Tom Liversedge had an effort ruled out before he grabbed Town’s forth goal five minutes from time, capitalising on a mistake by the visiting keeper.
