Junior football round up

DTFC Vikings 1
Gregory Celtic 3

This was a terrific match played end to end with entertaining football.

The away team went in 2-0 up at half-time. Daventry worked hard in the second half and scored a good goal from Harry Norton.

Jack, Alex, James, Oliver and Callum were all superb in defence and the play from Ben on the wing was excellent again. Harry, Shaun and Blaine up front worked very hard but the chances never went their way with the crossbar being hit seven times.

Man of the match was Thomas Clements for his work rate.

NTFA Cup Round 2,
Grange Park Yellow U11 2
Byfield Tigers U11 3

Playing away to Grange Park Yellow in the second round of the NTFA Cup on a chilly morning, Byfield took an early lead with a goal from Keir Wood, only to see Grange Park level things soon after.

Following several more chances at both ends, Keir Wood won the ball in the opposition penalty area and slotted home a second before half-time.

In the second-half, Byfield fended off a number of attacks, their defence well marshalled by Alex Skidmore, and then hit Grange Park on the break. Tommy Driscoll sent over a great cross from the right wing for George Hopwell to thump home his first goal for the club.

Despite a second goal for Grange Park late on, Byfield closed out the match to head into round three.

D Town Vikings U10s 5
P Tigers Black U10s 0

A determined display from the Daventry Town Vikings set up a 5-0 win against Parkland Tigers Black.

After an even first few minutes, Finn’s cross was met by Dan to make it 1-0 to the Vikings. Soon after Ben was on the end of a Reagan cross making it 2-0 to the Vikings.

The half-time score did not flatter the Vikings who dominated the first-half and created many chances on goal.

As the second-half began with the rain pouring down, the Vikings continued to push forward making it 3-0 when Finn fired in from Reagan’s pass.

Dan W’s second goal followed when he lashed in Reagan’s pass, and Ben K. completed a brace of goals for himself in the match converting Dan W’s cross, making the final score 5-0 to the Vikings.

Man of the Match was Ben K and Reagan.

Dav Town Vikings U12s 2
Towcester 2

This was an end to end match with good football from both teams.

Daventry went ahead just before half-time with a great goal from Thomas Clements. The team played well and at half-time the players knew they were in a good game.

The second-half saw good work from Ben Robinson, Oskar Challice, James Davey and Mathew Ridegewell.

Towcester went two one up and Daventry kept going to the end scoring in the final seconds.

Oskar Challice scored a late equaliser to make the final score two all which was a fair result all round.

Man of the match was Ben Robsinson.

Dav Town Saxons U10s 2

Brixworth Panthers 2

Saxons kept calm and came from behind late on to secure a well-earned point against battling Brixworth, but ended their own sequence of five straight league wins.

In an open end-to-end game of two halves, Saxons movement and link-up play in the first-half in particular, was outstanding with the home team creating a host of chances.

Biut it was a tremendous goal-line clearance by Dylan Overton that kept Saxons level and immediately led to a counter attack.

Josh Adams showed an excellent turn of pace and cool finish for his fourth league goal of the season to give Saxons a 1-0 interval lead.

Brixworth came out fighting in the second-half and began to get the upper hand with Saxons conceding two goals in quick succession - the first league goals conceded for almost three months.

Saxons had to defend for their lives but refused to lie down.

When the ball broke to man of the match Nayon Bryce, his wing trickery was rewarded when his cross was finished by Taylor Noel for the equaliser and his second league goal of the season.
