Gingerbread men are too hot for Daventry in 20th defeat

Market Drayton ran out 4-0 winners against Daventry in their final Division One South game of what has become a very disappointing season after such a promising start.

Daventry have now lost their last 20 games and the last time they won was at bottom of the table Tividale back in December.

Daventry finished the season one place off the bottom seven points above Tividale and both teams are relegated.

There is still some confusion as to which league Daventry will be playing their football next season. The club has promised to inform supporters once it has been confirmed by the Football Association.

Central defender Ricky Hill had not recovered from the injury which forced him off the field in the 6-0 defeat to Belper Town so striker Edilson Panzo-Antonio took over as captain.

The Gingerbread Men went ahead in the 11th minute with a goal from centre back Paul McMullen. Former Rugby Town youth striker Jetmir Esso went close for Daventry midway through the first half but his effort flew harmlessly past the post.

The impressive Panzo-Antonio also hit a fine strike from 20 yards but his effort was headed off the line to safety. Bustling striker Kenrick Miller also got the ball in the net for Daventry but the referee had already ruled out the effort for an earlier infringement.

Miller was replaced later in the match when Hill came on, playing up front as a central striker.

New signing Ghavami was introduced as a substitute for Esso and Nathan Humphrey replaced Panzo–Antonio but Daventry were unable to score a goal for the third successive match.
