LONG Buckby kicked off their league campaign in style with a 4-0 away success against St Ives to give them all three points.
The visitors took the lead within 25 seconds as Russ Dunkley chased down a back pass to the keeper to square the ball to skipper Richard Bunting who calmly slotted the ball between the hapless defenders to give Bucks the lead in the first minute.
The game was end to end and Buckby were awarded a penalty in the 40th minute when Russ Dunkley was barged in the back, just inside the area. Richard Bunting put the penalty away with aplomb giving the keeper no chance.
St Ives came out for the second-half in a determined mood. But despite the increased pressure, Buckby eventually broke for Rob Foster to turn the St Ives’ defence inside out to plant a superb third goal on the 60th minute.
Foster got his second latching on to a superb Craig Kelly pass to lob the St Ives’ goalkeeper to make the day complete with a 4-0 win.
The only downside of the match was that between both teams there were eight bookings.
Buckby finished with 10 men when, having used all three substitutes, Mark Hewitt limped off with a groin strain in the last 10 minutes.
This was a good start to the season and Buckby will be boosted as they faced Desborough on Tuesday evening.
