Fleetwood Town boss Rosler wary of free-scoring Cobblers

Fleetwood Town boss Uwe Rosler admits he is wary of the Cobblers' attacking threat ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet League One clash between the sides at the Highbury Stadium.

The Cod Army are on a fantastic run of form, having not lost in the league for 16 matches, and having not lost at home since September.

Rosler’s team are fourth in the table, just two points off the automatic promotion places, and are strong favourites to maintain their form against Justin Edinburgh’s side this weekend.

The Cobblers are 15th and still have fears about relegation, but the German knows Town have been revitalised under their new manager, especially when it comes to hitting the target.

In the six games played since Edinburgh took over from the sacked Rob Page, the Cobblers have scored an impressive 14 goals and Rosler is well aware of their threat going forward.

Town travel to the north west coast aiming for a first away win under Edinburgh, and the Fleetwood boss said: “Northampton have had a change in manager and most of the time that will have an effect and they have been affected.

“They have really good players and have scored the most goals in the last few games.

“They are a threat home or away and we just need to be sure that we are not the first team that they pick up their first away three points under the new manager.”

Despite their lofty position in league one and their superb home form, Fleetwood have the lowest average attendance in league one this season at 2,985, but Rosler still believes those supporters can initimdate opposition, and he wants them to do just that to the Cobblers.

“The atmosphere home and away has continued to get better and better, and we need that fantastic atmosphere again this weekend,” said the former Manchester City striker.

“The ground is small but can be intimidating and can be an advantage for our players and hopefully we can replicate that into Saturday afternoon.”

If Fleetwood were to continue their progress this season and win promotion to the Championship it would be a staggering achievement for such a small club, but Rosler believes it can be achieved.

“I don’t look at the table, this run is fantastic but we have to focus only on our next game,” he said.

“I never want to stop the fans dreaming, that is their right as supporters. We need to stay focused and believe that what we are doing can continue.

“There is a long way to go in the season but if we play to the best of our ability as I know we can do week in week out, who knows?”
