Fair bet for FA Vase hat-trick of wins

Whitley Bay now have excellent prospects of completing an unprecedented hat-trick of FA Vase successes at Wembley Stadium in May after bookmakers’ favourites Spennymoor and St Neots Town were both surprise fifth round casualties.

Northern League giants Spennymoor crashed out 3-3 on the south coast at Poole on Saturday while the Saints lost to fellow UCL title-contenders King’s Lynn for the second time in a week.

The Linnets won 4-2 in the league and followed up with a 2-1 Vase success on a day when plucky Long Buckby went down by a similar score against Leiston in Suffolk despite leading at half-time.
