Cobblers boss Justin Edinburgh is keeping his fingers crossed that Brendan Moloney and Luke Williams get through training unscathed this week.

The pair have both been missing due to knee injuries, with attacking midfielder Williams having been out for a month and right-back Moloney since November, but they are now nearing full fitness.

They are both back in full-time training and Edinburgh is now hoping to have them available for selection in Saturday’s Sky Bet League One clash with Chartlon Athletic at Sixfields (ko 3pm).

The Town boss, who will be without striker Alex Revell for a further fortnight due to his calf muscle injury, is desperate to add options to his matchday squad, and particularly the bench, so he has the capacity to change and influence things during a match.

At the moment, the Town boss admits he feels a little restricted in what he can do, and said: “This is not a limited squad, but I think we’re not blessed with numbers right now. We are not blessed with senior players that have done it at this level.

“We have a good fringe squad, but not really anybody at this present time that can come in and change the game, or are better than what we have got.

“You look at Rico (Marc Richards), he has played virtually every minute of every game that I have been here, in a short period of time, and we have to be mindful of keeping everybody as fit as we are.

“On another day we would have had Alex Revell back in, and we may have been able to change it up.

“Luke and Brendan will continue to join in training, and if the week goes according to plan with those two, then they could be in the matchday squad for Saturday.

“If we can get those players back, then it is only going to enhance what we can do on the pitch, and the changes we can make.”

Town suffered no further injury issues in Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat to Oldham Athletic.
