Delighted Edinburgh praises O'Toole as Cobblers claim crucial victory

After Saturday’s win against Chesterfield, Northampton entertained another team in the bottom four for a second key fixture in the space of three days and again they emerged victorious, albeit only in the nick of time.

Lloyd Jones’ own goal gave Cobblers a deserved lead just after the hour-mark and though Luke Norris equalised late on, O’Toole popped up to bag his fourth goal in three games and snatch victory, taking Town eight points clear of relegation in the process.

Speaking afterwards, Edinburgh, who witnessed his team claim successive wins for the first time since October, said: “We’re not the finished article but we’re getting stronger and starting to play how I want them to. We’re not doing it for 90 minutes yet but we played better for longer periods tonight.

“We knew Swindon were a good footballing side but we didn’t allow them to settle and we got out the traps quickly.

“To go in at 0-0 was disappointing after the way we played in the first half. For half an hour we moved the ball really well, we were relentless and created a lot of chances.

“We started the second-half well, got the goal but then started to make life difficult for ourselves again.

“But the players showed their character to pick themselves up after the equaliser and go and get the winner.”

And Edinburgh was full of praise for match-winner O’Toole, who continued his rich vein of goalscoring form.

He added: “From start to finish John-Joe O’Toole was outstanding.

“He’s very well thought of within the group and we have a lot of belief in him.

“If he continues to perform like that he will get double figures for the season. He’s got a knack of scoring goals.”
