Defender Prosser '˜jumped at the opportuntity' to sign on at Cobblers

The big central defender has decided to switch life with league one Southend United for league two Northampton after finding his first-team opportunities at Roots Hall limited.

It means Prosser has finally signed on at Sixfields, seven months after he was first linked with a transfer to Northampton, with manager Chris Wilder making a bid for the player back in June.

That attempt to sign Prosser came to nothing, but the Cobblers boss has finally got his man, and the player is also delighted to have belatedly made the move.

“I have finally managed to get down here, and I am really looking forward to getting going now,” said Prosser.

“The boys are doing fantasically well, so if I can help in any way and add to that then it will be brilliant.

“There was interest in the summer, but obviously I was still contracted down at Southend and at the time they weren’t willing to let me go.

“But as of late, I have been limited in games and there was the opportunity to come to Northampton until the end of the season.

“It wasn’t a case of wanting to leave Southend, it was more of a case of it being my time to leave and to go and get some games.

“With the interest still being there from Chris Wilder and Northampton, I jumped at the opportunity.

“The boys are flying and if I can help them see out the rest of the season and win the league, that will be fantastic.”

Since allowing Lee Collins to leave Sixfields at the end of last season, Wilder has been searching for another left-sided central defender to provide competition for Rod McDonald, who has been one of the Cobblers’ standout players in recent weeks.

So what can the Northampton fans expect to see from a player, whose most recent performance at Sixfields saw him sent-off for two bookings late on in the Shrimpers’ 1-1 draw last January.

“I am a big 6’ 4” centre half, with no frills, I head it and kick it,” said the 27-year-old.

“I have a bit of experience at this level, and last season having got promoted I would like to think I can add to the dressing room.

“But I am just really looking forward to getting back out there training, and to hopefully get some games.”
