Second half goals from Barry Deacon and top scorer Nabil Shariff stretched Daventry Town`s unbeaten Evo-Stik Northern Premier League run to five games with a superb 2-1 victory at Kidsgrove Athletic on Wednesday.
The victory lifted Town up to fourth in the Division One South table ahead of Saturday’s home game with Loughborough Dynamo.
The match was delayed for seven minutes due to hold-ups on the M6 motorway and after a goalless first half Daventry took a 65th minute lead through midfielder Deacon who chipped the Kidsgrove keeper from 25 yards. But Kidsgrove kicked off and levelled immediately when the ball knocked up field to striker Jake Wooley who found space to beat keeper Ben Heath.
Daventry took the lead for the second time 11 minutes later when striker James Tricks provided an assist for Shariff to send the Kidsgrove keeper the wrong way and give the visitors all three points. But it took some excellent saves from Heath to preserve maximum points.
Daventry now look forward to returning to Communications Park for two home games after two long journeys to Yorkshire and Staffordshire in their last two matches.
