Daventry Town continued their superb start to the season with another convincing victory, extending their winning run to six straight league wins, with a 1-0 triumph at promotion favourites Royston Town.
Boss Darran Foster was delighted with the performance, and said: “This was probably one of our strongest displays to date.
“We we never looked in danger of conceding, as the back five looked very solid.
“They all had good games, but the performance from Liam Dolman was absolute class. The Royston centre forward Mason was a real handful, but Liam kept him quiet all game.
“We should have had the game wrapped up by half- time. We bombarded the Royston goal only for the keeper to pull off a string of fine saves.
“We had two cleared off the line and a bullet 25-yard shot from Adam Confue which rattled the underside of the cross bar.
“The forwards worked very hard, a partnership which is starting to look very good and with Tom Lorraine returning to the bench, we have three powerful strikers.
“When you go on a run like this expectations become high, we are playing well and as long as we keep working hard and showing the same passion, we can do well.
“There are many good sides in this league and we just need to take one game at a time and try to maintain our performances.”
And he added: “It is the FA Cup Saturday, and yes it is important.
“We all love the competition and a good run is very important to the club as a whole.”
Royston were hampered by being reduced to 10 men with the score at 0-0, following a dangerous tackle on Dolman.
Daventry scored the winner in the 66th minute, a free kick from Ross Oulton found Ashley Robinson, who powered in an unstoppable header from three yards out.
