Daventry Town boss Allan Smart admitted his team deserved to lose at Northwood in the Southern League Division One Central.
But the Purple Army boss was still pleased with his players’ effort and commitment in Middlesex.
Northwood claimed the win with a goal late in the game, but Smart wasn’t left feeling as though his team, who scored through Ryan Howell, had been robbed.
“I thought the best team won,” admitted the Scotsman. “We worked hard but we were always clinging to the game.”
Smart is now preparing his team for Saturday’s Communications Park date with promotion play-off chasing Barton Rovers.
On paper it looks a tough fixture, and Barton will go into the match as favourites, but Smart believes his team has a genuine chance - providing everybody turns up and produces their A game.
“I felt we had a few players not on form on Saturday,” admitted Smart.
“But there were still some strong performances.
“We need everyone to be at the top of their form if we are to get a positive result, but I know we are still competing in every game.
“We have a strong nucleus of decent players which gives us a chance both now and for the future of the club.”
