Ashley Robinson and Tom Lorraine were the goal heroes as Daventry Town continued their brilliant run of form this season by beating Corby Town 2-1 in the FA Trophy at Communications Park.
The Steelmen travelled to Daventry as favourites as they play in the division above Darran Foster’s men, and all looked to be going to plan for them when former Daventry striker Tom Berwick fired them 1-0 up on just 17 minutes.
But Daventry got back into the tie when Ashley Robinson equalised eight minutes before the break.
The game looked to be heading towards a stalemate, but Daventry landed the killer blow 11 minutes from time through Lorraine.
Daventry are back in action on Monday night when they take on Kettering Town in the Red Insure Cup at Burton Latimer.
Elsewhere, Long Buckby suffered a 6-1 UCL Premier Division defeat at leaders Deeping, just a month after they lost to the same side 7-2 at home, while Woodford United were dumped out of the FA Vase.
The UCL Division One side were always going to be up against it as they hosted premier division outfit AFC Rushden & Diamonds at Byfield Road, and they were beaten 6-0.
Full reports on all of Saturday’s football will be in Thursday’s Daventry Express.
