Daventry welcomed back midfielder Adam Confue in midfield for the Division One South clash but were without striker Scott Cross who was serving a two-match suspension because of his sending off against Coalville Town.

Daventry conceded after 11 minutes in the crucial relegation clash when former Frickley Athletic midfielder Robby Johnson found space to beat the offside trap before beating keeper Ben Heath. A fantastic run from Barry Deacon almost produced an equaliser but the his shot was blocked by keeper Tom Nicholson for a corner.

Edilson Panzo-Antonio also went close when he chipped the ball over Nicholson and a defender only to watch his effort cleared from the goal line. Daventry centre back Ricky Hill was also called upon to kick the ball off his own goal line moments before the break after Goole striker Nick Guest had beaten Heath to the ball.

The game really came to life after the interval. Daventry were awarded a penalty after the ball was judged to have hit the hand of a defender from a Ricky Hill header and Panzo-Antonio coolly slotted away the equaliser to the Nicholson’s right.

Confue fired a volley over the bar before Kieran Fitzgerald then gave Daventry the 64th minute lead with a superb individual goal. Fitzgerald shrugged off the attentions of several Goole defenders before thumping the ball past a helpless Nicholson.

If only Daventry could have held on to their lead a little longer.

Goole responded by earning a penalty of their own a minute later and Guest slammed the ensuing spot-kick beyond Heath to draw Goole level. Worse was yet to come for Daventry in the final minute when Colbear hit a fine strike from the edge of the area to beat Heath and give Goole all three points.
