Cobblers’ reward for beating Barnsley will be a home game against West Bromwich Albion in the second round of the EFL Cup.
John-Joe O’Toole netted an extra-time winner at Oakwell on Tuesday night to earn a 2-1 win for Town and put them into the next round.
And they will now welcome Premier League side West Brom in the week commencing August 22.
The Cobblers have a fine recent history of beating higher level teams in the League Cup, with Bolton, Liverpool and Wolves among their victims.
And they will now hope to add West Brom’s scalp to that list when Tony Pulis and his squad, which contains former Cobblers loanee Saido Berahino, head to Northampton.
