Cobblers teenager Iaciofano grabbing his chance at Corby Town

But, for the time being, the youngster is fully focused on helping Corby Town complete the great escape in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Iaciofano joined the Steelmen on a work experience deal from Town at the start of last month and has been thrust straight into the middle of a relegation dogfight,

But the 18-year-old seems to relishing it.

Things were looking a bit bleak when Corby trailed relegation rivals Sutton Coldfield Town 1-0 at half-time at Steel Park last weekend.

Iaciofano admitted the Corby players received a ‘dressing down’ from manager Gary Mills at the interval, and it was the Cobblers man who sparked an 
epic fightback as his two goals put them 2-1 up before further efforts from Connor Kennedy, Spencer Weir-Daley and Aaron Brown completed a stunning 5-1 victory.

The win moved the Steelmen out of the relegation zone ahead of this weekend’s game at Barwell.

The short trip is the start of a crucial week for the Steelmen as they head to relegation rivals Marine next Tuesday night before playing them again at Steel Park a week on Saturday.

And Iaciofano believes the battle for survival will go to the wire.

He said: “The boys dug in.

“We were terrible in the first half but we got a bit of a dressing down from the gaffer at half-time and 
he turned us around to be fair.

“It’s easy when you have guys like Stefan (Moore) and Phil Trainer around you, you get chances given to you and it’s my job to put them away and I was happy to do that.

“It’s going to wire, definitely. But we just have to keep doing what we are doing and results will take care of themselves.

“We know that if we carry on digging in then we can get out of it.”

Iaciofano knows the hierarchy at Sixfields will be keeping an eye on his progress during his stint at Steel Park.

It’s a stint he is clearly enjoying so far.

“I am loving it here, the boys welcomed me straight away and I think I have fitted in quite well,” said the teenager, who has made three susbtitute appearances for the Cobblers first team this season.

Two of those were in stoppage time at Stourbridge and Sheffield United, with the other a 20-minute cameo in the Football League Trophy against West ham United.

He hasn’t really had the chance to show what he can do, but he is getting that opportunity at Steel Park, and relishing it

“It’s been a perfect move for me so far,” said Iaciofano

“I am scoring goals, I am happy and my confidence is just growing and growing.

“While I am here I have to keep doing what I am doing. Hopefully some good reports are getting back to the Cobblers and we will see what happens.

“But I am here to play for Corby and all we are thinking about is making sure the club stays up.”
