Cobblers striker Alex Revell will be out of action until mid-March after aggravating his calf muscle injury.

The 10-goal frontman initially suffered the injury in the defeat at Milton Keynes Dons on January 21, but had been expected to return to action in last Saturday’s clash at Fleetwood Town.

But Revell suffered a setback in training last Friday, and after undergoing a scan on Monday he has been ruled out for a further three weeks.

That means the 33-year-old is unlikely to be available for selection until the trip to Bolton Wanderers on March 18, meaning he will be unavailable for a further four matches on top of the six he has already missed.

“It is a real shame for us and for Alex,” said Cobblers boss Justin Edinburgh.

“He was on the verge of coming back and he has suffered this setback.

“We expect he will be out for three weeks or so, but Alex is remaining positive and is working really hard to make sure he returns as soon as possible.”
