Cobblers Reserves prove too hot for Posh to handle

ON TARGET - Paul Anderson scored the first goal for Cobblers Reserves in their 3-0 win over Peterborough United Reserves

A strong Cobblers reserves team proved too powerful for a Peterborough United second string as Town claimed a 3-0 win against their rivals in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday afternoon.

The match was played at Sileby Rangers’ Fernie Fields ground, and the Cobblers claimed victory after a flying start that saw them ease into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 36 minutes.

After Posh had started well and hit the post early on, Paul Anderson and Emmanuel Sonupe were both on target in the opening 12 minutes, before a third strike before the break ended the match as a contest.

Justin Edinburgh used the game to give players who haven’t been heavily involved in the first team recently some game time.

David Cornell lined up in goal, and there were also starts for Brendan Moloney, Neal Eardley, Rod McDonald, Paul Anderson, Raheem Hanley, Hiram Boateng, Keshi Anderson, Harry Beautyman and Sonupe.

Moloney continued his return to full fitness with 77 minutes of action before being withdrawn, while academy striker Lewis Irwin was one of the players to come on later in the game, and also made a scoring mark but headed a Boateng corner wide.
