The former Oxford United man is on a short-term contract at Sixfields which runs out in the summer, but he is keen to extend his career at Northampton.

Rose revealed he hasn’t yet spoken officially about signing a new deal, but that he expects to do so as soon as is possible once the season comes to a close following the final game of the season at Portsmouth on Saturday.

“We have not talked about it officially yet, but I believe me, Chris (Wilder) and Kelvin (Thomas) will speak at some point,” said the former Manchester United trainee.

“I assume we will get this weekend’s game out of the way, and then we will sit down and talk.”

And asked is he is keen to stay with the Cobblers, Rose made it clear exactly how he feels.

“I would love to stay,” said the 27-year-old. “I mean, why wouldn’t you want to stay?

“The club is going places, everything is set here for at least league one football, and even above.

“With the addition of one or two players, which is inevitable, and the backbone and core of the squad we have got already, there is no reason why not.

“Teams can take hope from what clubs like Burton have done, who have maintained pretty much the same squad and added one or two faces as well.

“They have set the benchmark for teams being promoted from league two, and we will definitely be aspiring to do that.”

Rose signed for the Cobblers on deadline day of the January transfer window, leaving Oxford where he had played for four years and made close to 100 appearances.

He signed for Northampton hoping to get some football as he had been out in the cold at the Kassam Stadium, and he got his wish, enjoying two lenghty runs in the Cobblers team, keeping Joel Byrom on the sidelines.

In all, Rose has made 12 starts and one substitute appearance for the Cobblers, scoring once, that being the only goal in the 1-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers in February.
