But he could get a chance to prove himself against the winner this Saturday, with striker Matty Taylor heading to Sixfields with in-form Bristol Rovers.

Taylor took the prize after scoring eight goals in seven games during March.

He has netted in each of his past six matches, bagging a brace in his most recent outing, against Crawley Town last Saturday.

O’Toole had scored four goals during March and was the stand-out midfielder in the division during that period.

He has helped steer Cobblers to the top of the table and they will win promotion if they beat Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Those three points, coupled with Oxford United failing to win at Crawley, would see Cobblers claim the title.

Chris Wilder was not nominated for the manager of the month award, which was won by Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke.
