The Cobblers are urging all supporters to ‘Bring a Buddy’ to ensure a big crowd for Saturday’s crunch npower League Two clash with play-off hopefuls Oxford United at Sixfields (ko 3pm).

Northampton have slipped to sixth place in the table following Saturday’s results, with Aidy Boothroyd’s men seeing their match at Wycombe Wanderers postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

With just four home games remaining, every match at Sixfields is going to be crucial as the Cobblers target promotion to league one, and the club are this week launching an their #NTFCBringABuddy initiative to get the regular supporters to bring a pal with them to make sure Sixfields is packed to the rafters.

A club statement read: “As the season approaches the home stretch, we are calling on all Cobblers supporters to get behind the players as we look to secure an automatic promotion spot.

“It has certainly been an exciting season so far, and it promises to be even more so now with just four home games remaining.

“Sitting in sixth position, just four points away from an automatic promotion place and five points off second place, we are in a great position, particularly when you think that we have a game in hand on the teams in second to fifth.

“Your support so far this season has been fantastic, and we are looking to build on this even more.

“This Saturday, 23rd March, we have a huge derby game against play off chasing Oxford United. With our local rivals expected to bring in excess of 1,200 supporters, it is sure to be a great atmosphere and a cracking match.

“The players would love to see the stadium packed out. This week we are running a Bring a Buddy initiative, whereby we are inviting all supporters to bring a friend, or a group of friends, along to the game to get behind our promotion hunt.

“Season ticket holders are more than welcome to change their seat to accommodate bringing a friend at no extra cost, and all you have to do is contact the Box Office to get this sorted out.

“Tickets will be priced as normal for the game, but be sure to book yours soon as they are already selling fast!

“Get behind our Bring a Buddy campaign on Twitter by tweeting us @ntfc using the hashtag #NTFCBringABuddy.

“A few fans have already got behind the idea which is great to see, and the more we can get involved, the better.

“We will be generating a big social media drive on this, so we want you to tweet us and send us messages on Facebook to really spread the word.

“All the players who are on Twitter will be getting involved in this as well, so look out for their tweets on this and feel free to send them a tweet!

“Let’s see Sixfields as full as possible this weekend!”

Oxford United’s play-off hopes were hit at the weekend when they lost 1-0 at home to Chesterfield, but they are still in 10th place, just six points behind Rotherham in the final play-off place, and seven behind the Cobblers.
