O’Toole scored four times during the month of March, helping Town maintain their impressive unbeaten run, which now spans 18 matches.

Cobblers have not lost in the league since December 19 and O’Toole’s fine form has been key to that.

The 27-year-old will be up against Hartlepool United full-back Jake Carroll, Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor and Oxford United frontman Kemar Roofe in the bid to win the March award.

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder has not been nominated for the manager of the month gong, with Bristol Rovers’ Darrell Clarke, Hartlepool’s Craig Hignett, Exeter City’s Paul Tisdale and Yeovil Town’s Darren Way the contenders.

Wilder has won the past two monthly prizes after steering his side to the brink of the league two title.
