Chairman Thomas confirms Rose will not be signing for Cobblers

Thomas offered Rose a new deal at the end of the season after he had helped the Cobblers to the Sky Bet League Two title.

Signed from Oxford United by Chris Wilder on a short-term contract in the January transfer window, Rose made 13 starts and two substitute appearances for Northampton.

Prior to the end of the season Rose expressed his desire to stay at Sixfields, but he has now been linked with a move to Portsmouth and it is being reported he is undergoing a medical at Fratton Park today.

Thomas has confirmed the player will not be re-signing for the Cobblers, stating the the club were ‘not willing’ to match terms being offered elsewhere, and that manager Rob Page has his sights on other players.

“We offered Danny a decent deal but we’re not willing to match what he was offered elsewhere,” said Thomas.

“Rob hasn’t seen much of Danny, and taking everything into account we felt that for that kind of money we could get someone who has some league one experience.

“We wish Danny all the best and thank him for his efforts.”

The decision not to re-sign Rose follows on from Nicky Adams’ free transfer to Carlisle United last week, but the club have confirmed they will be announcing a new signing on Friday afternoon.

The signing will be manager Page’s first for the club.
