A TWO-GOAL strike from Long Buckby’s new face Ashley Robinson was just the morale-booster the club needed ahead of their FA Vase showdown on Saturday.
The win will also add another valuable three points to the Station Road outfit’s league tally at a crucial stage of their league campaign.
The former Coleshill man did not waste time making his mark for the visiting supporters taking only four minutes to open the Buckby account on Saturday.
But Buckby’s joy was relatively short-lived as Eddie Mills scored the equaliser for the home side only minutes later.
But Buckby refused to give up the fight and Robinson scored his second goal in the final minute of the first-half to restore the visitors’ advantage.
Irchester stepped up their game in the second-half but despite their best efforts were unable to turn their chances into goals.
Buckby went on to snatch all the points in another impressive performance as they prepare for Saturday’s FA Vase fifth round showdown with Leiston.
Long Buckby were due to play a rearranged away fixture against Holbeach United on Wednesday this week.
