Buckby go crashing out of FA Vase

LONG Buckby suffered only their second defeat of the season – again in an FA competition – when they crashed out against a plucky Enfield.

Enfield started better but on 10 minutes Russell Dunkley broke clear only for his shot eventually to go for a throw in.

The keeper made a good save from Greg Ling after a delightful left wing move. Buckby should have taken the lead when a break on the right set up Dan Quigley but his goal-bound effort hit a team-mate and went for a goal kick.

Rob Foster and Russell Dunkley had good efforts but Enfield went closest when a free kick on the left edge of the box was tipped over by Tom Stephanou.

Buckby came out all guns blazing at the start of the secondhalf with a couple of early corners that were cleared.

Tom Stephanou came to the rescue on 51 minutes when he saved well from Taylor-Forbes who had broken clear.

Ling, Koriya and Quigley all had attempts on goal after good work by Dunkley and Foster. Tom Stephanou came to the rescue again when he held a shot after Enfield’s Shannon had broken clear.

Enfield took the lead on 66 minutes when Lee Benmore met a corner at the near post to find a gap in to the stunned host’s net.

But the lead lasted only three minutes until captain Richard Bunting ran on to a Russell Dunkley lay off to rifle an equaliser into the Enfield net.

From the kick off, Enfield were awarded a penalty when Keeper Stephanou was adjudged to have fouled an Enfield forward and Wesley Borghys put away the spot kick 1-2.

As expected in the last 20 minutes Buckby launched attack upon attack on the Enfield goal but to no avail.

Buckby also lost Stuart Smeathers to a second yellow card and he will now miss the Boxing Day derby at Daventry United.
