Boss Page relaxed as Cobblers chase their first league win of the season

Town entertain bottom-of-the-table AFC Wimbledon at Sixfields, having claimed three draws in their three Sky Bet League One encounters so far this season.

Page’s men followed up their opening day home 1-1 draw with Fleetwood with another 1-1 draw at Charlton and then a 0-0 stalemate at Oldham Athletic on Tuesday.

They are three results that have stretched the club’s remarkable unbeaten league run to 27 games, but that first win of the campaign has so far proved elusive.

The old adage in football is that successful teams pick up something on the road and then win their home games, and that is something the Cobblers will be desperate to do at the weekend.

They have done the away bit by claiming those two draws, as well as an extra-time EFL Cup win at Championship side Barnsley, now they have to bag that home win, although Page insists there will be no anxiety among the squad this weekend.

“We will carry on as normal,” said the Cobblers boss, who is clearly satisfied with how his team have begun their campaign.

“We have played Charlton away, Oldham away and Barnsley away, and have claimed two draws and a win. I will take that any day of the week.

“If we are being really picky, the home game against Fleetwood we should have won.

“We created enough opportunities to win that game, so potentially we could be two points behind the total that we should be on, but it evens itself out.

“There will be games that we go into where we will have large amounts of possession and control the game and not get anything for it.

“There will be other games where we shouldn’t win, and we will go and win, so it evens itself out.

“In the four games we have had, we have played a Championship team in the cup and beaten them, we have gone to Charlton who have come down and got a point.

“We have gone to Oldham, who outplayed Walsall in many aspects the game before we played them and should have won and are a team I feel will have a right go this season, and we got a point there as well.

“That all gives us confidence going into Saturday’s home game.”

An area of concern for Page is the lack of goals his team are scoring.

The Cobblers have managed just two in the league to date, an own goal and an Alex Revell header, but the manager - who has made no secret of the fact he is trying to sign a new striker - believes the team will soon find its shooting boots.

“There will be goals in the team,” said the Town boss ahead of the clash against a Wimbledon side who have lost four out of four so far this season.

“We have shown we can defend, and we have shown that as a unit we are quite solid, and the only area we need to improve on is goalscoring.

“We wil be working on that and make sure we put it right.

“The minute we stop creating chances will be the time for us to be concerned.

“As long as we are creating the chances, then eventually we will finish them and it will come off for us.

“That is a frustration at the minute, but I am pleased overall.”
