DAVENTRY Town, Woodford United, Long Buckby and Bugbrooke St Michaels have all picked up away draws in the initial stages of the 2012-13 FA Cup competition, writes Mike Tebbitt.
Darran Foster’s new-look Daventry team will face either Godmanchester Rovers or Thetford Town in the preliminary round on August 25. Both possible opponents have been promoted to the Ridgeons Eastern League this season.
Woodford meanwhile must travel to Dereham Town or S and L Corby where Phil Mason’s men would not relish playing on the infamous sloping pitch at Occupation Road.
UCL champions Long Buckby face a trip to Hereford in the extra preliminary round on August 11 to face Pegasus Juniors from the West Midlands League.
Victory for the Bucks would take them to Sutton Coldfield a fortnight later while Bugbrooke would enjoy home advantage against either Ely City or Rothwell Corinthians. After that the Badgers could potentially clash with Woodford.
Daventry’s opponents in the £3,000 first qualifying round on September 8 would be any one from Wellingborough Town, March Town or King’s Lynn who have been promoted to the Northern Premier League.
In the FA Trophy preliminary round on September 15, Daventry Town will travel to Staffordshire to take on a Kidsgrove Athletic side they beat by a 4-3 margin in the competition at Communications Park last season.
Woodford have been given a bye before visiting Rushall Olympic on September 29 when the winners of the Kidsgrove/Daventry tie will go east to Stamford or west to Evesham.
Long Buckby have twice enjoyed lengthy runs in the FA Vase so have been exempted from the first two stages before entertaining either Downham Town or UCL rivals Northampton Spencer in the first round proper on October 13.
