Albion boss Pulis praises Cobblers for shock cup win but rues poor finishing

The Cobblers were full value for their penalty shoot-out victory after matching the Premier League side throughout in an absorbing cup tie, which had ended 2-2 at the end of extra-time.

Kenji Gorre’s spot-kick won it in the end for Town after Adam Smith had saved James Morrison’s penalty, but for Pulis, it was a case of wondering what might have been had his side taken their chances in normal time.

“We’re disappointed, obviously,” he said. “You’ve got to give all the credit to Northampton, I thought they did really well, they worked hard and in the end they got the breaks.

“I think if you look at the opportunities and chances we’ve had, we should have scored more than two goals.

“I thought first 20 minutes they were good and then we came into it, like I say, we felt we controlled it then.

“But I’m not going to take anything away from Northampton, fair play to them, I hope they get a great draw in the next round.

“The difference was both boxes. We’ve created chances and not put them away and we’ve given them two poor goals for us.

“On another night, you would hope we create as many chances but score more goals.”
