Dickens delighted as Manoa shatters Saracens

Saints assistant coach Alan Dickens heaped praise on Samu Manoa after the American played a starring role in the LV= Cup victory over Saracens.

Manoa scored twice, including what proved to be the winning try, and played a part in James Wilson’s opener.

It was another gargantuan display from the 28-year-old, who was also man of the match in Saints’ Premiership win against Sarries in October.

And Dickens couldn’t have been happier with the contribution of the club’s current players’ and supporters’ player of the year, who even has his own chant in the Gordon Terrace.

“Samu has played really this year,” said Dickens. “He had last week off and it was some performance today scoring two tries.

“Samu’s put in some great performances this year and it wasn’t something that was out of the blue. He puts in great performances, week in week out.

“He’s a crowd favourite and when he does what he did today you can see why.”

Saints’ victory means they will host Saracens in the LV= Cup semi-finals on the second weekend of March.

Northampton have now won the past three meetings between the teams and Dickens is looking forward to welcoming them back to Franklin’s Gardens.

He said: “We’ve had some good games against Saracens recently so we’ll look forward to the semi-final.”
