DAVENTRY Athletic Club’s U17 team had a good second place finish behind a strong Leicester team in their latest McCain Young Athletes League Division One NE match at Leamington.
Sam Meyler had a very good day recording personal best performances in winning the U17 men’s long jump with 6.36m and the high jump with 1.72m as well as finishing second in the 400m.
Fellow U17 Kieran Russ won the 100m hurdles and placed second in the shot (p.b. 11.99m).Jake Williams came fourth in the 800m and Angelia Cooney had a win double in the women’s 800m and 1500m.
At U15 level Nathan Young was the star performer recording a hat-trick of wins in the boys’ hammer, discus and shot.
Liam Barns won the javelin and placed second in the discus. Jack Bond won the 800m and finished second in the long jump (5.03m), newcomer Daniel Thompson came second in the 100m and 200m and Ryan Barrett finished third in the 100m and shot.
In the girls’ events Georgia Webster won the 75m hurdles and 200m, Louise Hanby won the shot and javelin, Abbie Barns won the high jump and placed second in the 75m hurdles and discus.
Emily Print finished second in the long jump (4.50m) and shot, Paige Hobbs came second in the 800m and Javelin, Emily Spilman was third in the 100m and Maisy Radford placed fourth in the 100m and 200m.
In the U13 age group, Joe Stewart won the boys’ 100m and came second in the 75m hurdles, Emily Sanderson finished second in the girls’ 75m, 150m and long jump and Rhiannon Appleby came third in the girls’ high jump (1.25m) on her competition debut.
Away from the Young Athletes League, it was an excellent week for 19-year-old Michael Fenn.
On Wednesday he competed at Loughborough for East Midlands U23s in a match against Loughborough University and British Police and broke the seven-metre barrier for the first time in winning the long jump with a leap of 7.02m.
On Bank Holiday Monday he represented Northants at the U.K.Inter Counties Championships at Bedford and finished seventh in the long jump with 7.04m having jumped 7.06m in the qualifying round earlier in the day.
