An outstanding unbroken eighth-wicket partnership of 63 by Amad Butt (26no) and Zafar Gohar (37no) steered Pakistan to their target of 205 after they had been in real trouble at 142-7.

Rob Sayer, formerly of Peterborough Town, took 2-39 to complement his part in a stand of 50 with Will Rhodes, who made an unbeaten 76, at the end of the England innings which enabled them to post a competitive total of 204-7.

Ryan Higgins had contributed 52 and the County’s Duckett 22, but it proved to be in vain as the Pakistani’s held their nerve.

The other semi-final is between Australia and South Africa.
