The first day of the LV= County Championship clash went, in the main, the hosts’ way and they resume their first innings in the morning on 79-1 in reply to ythe visitors’ 273.

In the 16 overs they were required to face, Warwickshire lost Ian Westwood for a single to David Willey but Varun Chopra, with 43 at alomst a run a ball, and William Porterfield (24no) made it to the close with the power to add come the morning.

Having been sent in after Chopra won the toss, the County made a decent start and midway through the afternoon had reached 151-3 with James Kettleborough on 71.

But the opener’s dismissal, caught behind off Rikki Clarke, triggered a middle order slump which saw three more wickets fall for the addition of just 18 runs.

Ben Duckett (55) and Andrew Hall (43) collaborated in an eighth-wicket stand of 96 but once Hall had provided Oliver Hannon-Dalby with his fourth wicket, the innings quickly subsided.
