Head coach David Ripley recently confirmed that the County had tabled an offer to an overseas star in a bid to get him to play a part in the T20 campaign.

And Ripley is now optimistic that the contract could be sorted within a week.

“We’re hopefully a little closer to getting our T20 man, but not there yet,” he said.

“The dialogue seems a bit more positive.

“We now have a revised offer on the table and hopefully that will come to fruition within a week.”

Meanwhile, Northants now have their itinerary for the pre-season tour of Barbados, which begins on March 10.

Ripley’s side will take part in a T20 tournament involving four teams, with Barbados, Nottinghamshire and Hampshire also taking part.

Northants then face a one-day game against Barbados and a two-day match against Nottinghamshire, with four practice dates during the time that they are there.

“It’s been a good formula for us over the years,” said Ripley.

“We’re looking forward to getting out of the indoor school where we train.

“The cricket’s been going really well but it’s nice to know that there will soon be some outdoor practice.”
