Northamptonshire legend Reynolds passes away

Brian Reynolds, a first-team player from 1950 to 1970, passed away at the weekend aged 82.

Famously described by John Arlott as ‘in his own mind he is not only a cricketer, he is a Northamptonshire cricketer’, Reynolds gave more than 50 years service to the club he loved acting as player, coach, scout and youth development officer over his lengthy career.

Born in Kettering, where he lived all his life, he also played football with distinction for the town’s club over several years as well as having a stint with Peterborough United.

His 426 first-class appearances put him third on the all-time list for Northamptonshire - behind only Dennis Brookes and Jack Timms - but there was far more to his contribution to the game in the county.

As the late Lynn Wilson, who was then club chairman, described Reynolds at the time of his retirement there were ‘few, if any, individuals more committed and dedicated to Northamptonshire’s cause’.
