NCL ROUND-UP: White and Heathfield keep ONs in title touch

It was a crucial win for the third-placed ONs, as it meant they didn’t lose any ground on the top two Peterborough and Rushton, who both also won easily.

Former Northants man Rob White was again in the runs as the ONs eased to a 105-run win over struggling Stony.

White struck 94 in the visitors’ 249 for seven, with Mobushar Khawaja adding an unbeaten 32 and Daniel Harris 25 not out.

Tom Heathfield then did the damage as his five for 38 restricted Stony to 144, despite Russell White making 34 and Vicram Sohal 29.

At Brixworth, defending champions Peterborough enjoyed a comfortable 122-run success over thir hosts.

An opening partnership of 241 between Asim Butt (115no) and Lewis Bruce (118) enabled the visitors to declare on 259 for two after 50 overs.

Joe Dawborn then took four for 17 as the hosts were bowled out for 137, Tom Worthington top scoring with 41.

Rushton had no trouble at all as they hammered bottom side Burton Latimer by 151 runs.

Batting first, Rushton declared on 264 for three after just 40 overs as Ben Mansell (82), David Murphy (50) and Andy Reynoldson (52no).

The Burton reply only lasted less than 27 overs as they could only muster up 113 with Marcus Steed taking four for 18.

Rushden dropped further off the pace as they suffered a 10-wicket thumping at the hands of inconsistent Saints.

Only number 10 William Liptrot (10) reached double figures as, with Fazel Niyazi taking four for 24, the home side were skittled for a meagre 83.

Mark Wolstenholme claimed three for 33 and Corbyn Dolley three for 13.

Saints then raced to their target in under 14 overs with Zak Harvey finishing with an undefeated 46 and Elliott Patterson on 24.

Wollaston were second best at home to Horton Hosue as they went down by six wickets.

Steve Finch took six for 40 in Wollaston’s 172 and Charlie MacDonnell then made an unbeaten 72 as Horton eased to 173 for four, with Leo Carter chipping in with 34 and Shiv Jhala 31.

Finedon Dolben had few problems as Oundle as they recorded a seven-wicket success.

Alex Martin top scored with 60 in Oundle’s under par 164 (Will Sneath 6-50) before Andy Daniels (65) and Ben Howgego (66) steered Finedon to 165-3 with plenty of time to spare.

HORTON HOUSE were beaten by Peterborough in the final of the Hevey Northants Twenty20 at the County Ground on Sunday.

Horton House made 134 for nine, which was not enough as Peterborough’s Asim Butt hit 70 to see his side home by six wickets with five overs to spare.

In the semi-finals, Peterborough overcame Oundle by seven wickets, while Horton slaughtered Wollaston after making a whopping 251 in their 20 overs.
