Resuming on their overnight 149-5, the visitors were bowled out for 284 as the home side moved above Nottinghamshire into second place in the standings.

Ben Duckett advanced from 14 to 71 but his resistance proved in vain as, not for the first time, the County were left with too big a hill to climb.

After an uneventful first half an hour, James Middlebrook was the first to go when his defences were breached by Keith Barker and David Willey only managed a single before Jeetan Patel had him caught at mid-off.

Duckett edged Oliver Hannon-Dalby behind before Andrew Hall was bowled by Barker for 31.

With lunch put back and it did not take long for Warwickshire to claim the final victim when Neil Wagner was caught on 18 leaving the County to suffer another innings defeat.

Next up for the County, who still have two games remaining, is a trip to the north east to face Durham with the contest getting under way on Monday.
