Corbisiero can’t wait to be part of the ‘great culture’ at Saints

The England prop, who has 18 Test caps to his name, will move to Northampton from London Irish this summer.

He will help to fill the void left by Soane Tonga’uiha, with the Tongan loosehead destined for Racing Metro at the end of this season.

And Corbisiero can’t wait for the challenge that lies ahead at Franklin’s Gardens.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at London Irish and am grateful for everything that the club has given me,” said the 24-year-old.

“I’m looking forward to what will be a new challenge at Saints next summer. There is a great culture and hopefully I can help the team succeed whilst continuing my progression as a player, and I’m sure that Franklin’s Gardens will be a good environment for me in that regard.”

Corbisiero will join Alex Waller and Tom Mercey at Saints, after the prop pair extended their deals at the club.

Waller was named young player of the year at the club last season and says staying on at Saints was a no-brainer.

“It wasn’t a hard decision to make,” said the 22-year-old. “My family are in the area, I’ve been playing here for the last four or five years and I feel that I have developed a lot as a player.

“I want to keep developing and hope that I can do that under the guidance of the coaches and the set-up here at the Saints.

“I’m still learning every game and have played more than I thought I would, especially last season. Hopefully I’ve become an established member of the squad and can keep on pushing for a starting spot.”

Saints boss Jim Mallinder was delighted with the trio of deals, and he said: “All three players have plenty of experience and because they are still in their early-to-mid twenties we believe that there is plenty more to come from them.

“I’m delighted that all three props have put pen to paper to be a part of the Saints squad going forward.”
