Burrell says Saints will keep their feet on the ground

The England centre scored twice as the Cherry and Whites were crushed 53-6 at Franklin’s Gardens on Friday.

But Saints now face back-to-back away Aviva Premiership games, with Sunday’s trip to Wasps followed by a game at Newcastle Falcons a week later.

And Burrell has stressed that he and his team-mates have their feet firmly on the ground as they bid to back up the Gloucester win with another at Adams Park this weekend.

“We’re not going to get carried away,” he said.

“It’s one game of however many and it’s a hell of a long season.

“We’ll enjoy the win, rest and get ready for the game against Wasps on Sunday.”

The settled nature of Saints’ squad, which has remained largely unchanged from last season, paid dividends against a new-look Gloucester outfit last Friday.

And Burrell said: “We’re very cohesive. We know each other well.

“You saw from linebreaks made that we’ve got players pushing through the line.

“Players were anticipating what others were going to do when they had the ball in hand and it’s fantastic to have a squad like that, which knows each other inside out.

“Not just that, we’ve got good players coming through the ranks.

“We had Will Hooley coming off the bench at 10, we’ve got Tom Stephenson coming through, Alex Day coming through.

“We’ve got a good bunch of lads who work hard during the week. The work we put in during the week pays off on a night like last Friday.”
