Athletes in top form at major event

DAVENTRY Athletic Club members had a successful time at the Northamptonshire Track and Field Championships which were held at Rockingham Triangle, Corby over the weekend.

Club athletes won a total of 28 medals, including nine golds.

Sam Meyler was a double gold medallist in the U17 men’s long jump (6.32m) and high jump (1.71m) and also collected a bronze medal in the 100m hurdles.

Another double gold medallist was Niklas Aarre who continued his promising start to the season with wins in the U17 men’s discus and hammer plus a third place in the shot.

Also in the U17 age group, Matt Clarke was a gold medallist in the triple jump and bronze medallist in the javelin while multi-event specialist Kieran Russ collected four silver medals in the javelin (43.32m), shot (10.79m), long jump (5.73m) and 100m hurdles plus a bronze in the high jump.

In the U15 age group, Georgia Webster became County Champion for the girls’ 75m hurdles (12.4) and placed third in the 200m while Jack Bond won a gold medal in the boys’ triple jump (11.19m), a silver in the high jump and a bronze in the 400m.

Other medallists in this age group included Conor Aldridge - silver in the boys’ 400m (56.4) and 100m, Abbie Barns - silver in the girls’ high jump (1.40m), Maisy Radford - bronze in the girls’ 300m and Emily Spilman - bronze in the 100m while Joe Stewart won a silver medal in the U13 boys’ 100m and bronze in the javelin.

In the senior men’s long jump Michael Fenn won the gold medal with 6.62m while at the other end of the age range Katie Print won the U11 girls’ long jump with a leap of 3.72m – a championship best performance.

Katie also collected a silver medal in the 100m.
