Angela Morris was in third place in the London Counties Rally Championship following her recent success on the Abingdon Stages in Oxfordshire.

Angela, driver for the East Midlands Rally Team, along with Paul Ohren-Bird (pictured) navigating, finished an impressive eighth in class following 12 stages and 90 competitive miles on the roads and runway of Abingdon Army Barracks.

Angela battled against a strong field of 22 other competitors in her class of cars from 1300cc to 1600cc.

A focussed attack of the first group of stages led to some fast stage times and a steady move up the leaderboard.

As the day got hotter, a change from intermediate to slick tyres gave even better grip and resulted in outstanding times and a leap of eight places on the leaderboard over the final three stages.

"It was an excellent day and we know the car can be even more competitive so over the winter we will be overhauling the transmission and testing different suspension set ups.

"We then look forward to a full season in 2002 with possibly some events on the continent as this finish qualifies me for a National A licence," said Angela.

This is Angela s second season as a driver for East Midlands Rally Team.

Paul has been a navigator for seven years and also regularly competes alongside Bill Douglas, from Ravensthorpe.
