Northamptonshire endured a day of hard toil as Warwickshire moved into a commanding position on day two of the LV= County Championship fixture at Edgbaston.
At the close of play, the home side had moved on to 413-3 for a lead of 140 which could get substantially larger before the County are called on to bat for a second time.
The duo of Jonathon Trott and Sam Hain were responsible for the damage as they shared an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 271 with the former on 128 and his younger partner on 148.
It was Trott’s second Championship century of the summer and Hain’s fourth, the first of which came in the reciprocal fixture earlier in the season.
The England batsman was the first to three figures from 173 balls and Hain was not too far behind with his own milestone using up two deliveries fewer.
The County attack was minus David Willey, who spent the whole day off the field with a back problem, and his colleagues had next to nothing to show for their efforts.
Only Varun Chopra (53), to Neil Wagner, and William Porterfield (46), to James Middelbrook’s off-spin, were dismissed on a day that encapsulated Northants’ dismal season in microcosm.
