Singing the blues. . .

Paul Lamb and The Kingsnakes
Paul Lamb and The Kingsnakes

A new blues club is to be launched at the end of the month in Woodford Halse.

Eydon Live Music, who have organised several live music events in Eydon, were approached by Woodford Halse Social Club about running a similar event.

And this has led to the formation of The Great Central Blues Club on Saturday, July 26. The first act to perform is Paul Lamb and The Kingsnakes who will be supported by SPANK.

The Great Central Blues Clubs will run bi-monthly blues gigs at the venue in Hinton Road and will be open to everyone.

Paul Lamb has been hailed by aficionados and music press around the world as Europe’s foremost blues harmonica exponent.

He has won countless awards, sold record-breaking quantities of albums, and performed the world over with his long-standing musical compatriots, The Kingsnakes. Recently inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall Of Fame (alongside the likes of Peter Green, John Mayall and Alexis Korner), Lamb still continues to bring his infectious brand of soulful blues to a plethora of fans around the globe. As the worlds’ music press can happily testify, his name is synonymous with serious quality and his leadership skills have kept the Kingsnakes at the top of the British blues scene for almost two decades.

They are supported by local band SPANK! (aka Spank The Monkey) as part of their 20 Years Tour.

SPANK is a dynamic fusion of raucous roots and blues-rock. Their live performances acquaint younger members of the audience with the glory of British Rhythm and Blues whilst reminding more senior onlookers of the halcyon days of luminaries such as the early Stones, Dr Feelgood and the Yardbirds.

Since their formation in 1994 the band has continually played gigs and events as well as appearing at festivals in the UK and Europe. They have a full repertoire of legendary rhythm and blues, including some of their own music, guaranteed to stir the crowd.

A spokesman for the club said: “We do hope that this new club is a success and that people will come along to support some exceptional live blues at the Great Central.”

Tickets for the show cost between £10 and £12.50.
