Youngsters use horses to help communication skills

A YOUTH group from Daventry is riding high after a pony-packed training day gave their team working skills a boost.

Seven members of Daventry and District Housing’s Youth Board attended a ‘Taking the Reins’ session at social inclusion charity Circles Network, in Rugby.

The project offers young people the chance to interact with horses with the aim of building self esteem, confidence and improved communication and social skills.

Youth board member Yasmin Reeve said: “I fell off a horse when I was younger so it was quite scary getting back in the ring, but by the end of the day I’d overcome my fears and didn’t want to leave.

“After the session you could see a real difference in how we were communicating with each other. We are all working together much more easily now which will be good for our up and coming projects.”
