A member of Yelvertoft WI has become the national vice chair of the National Federation of WIs (NFWI)

Diana Birch, who is a former county chairman of the Northamptonshire Federation of WIs, was excited with her new role.

She said: “I am delighted to serve as vice chair of the NFWI and I am honoured to have been selected by my fellow members and Trustees.

“Having been part of the NFWI Board of Trustees since 2008, I am looking forward to building on past successes and continuing to promote the WI.

“I am especially looking forward to 2015 when we will be celebrating our centenary”

She joined Yelvertoft WI in 1978 and became president. As a Northamptonshire Federation Trustee for 12 years, she was instrumental in the creation of the new green HQ, and in 2008 she was co-opted on to the NFWI Board. She was elected as NFWI vice-chair in June 2013 last month.

Away from the WI, she keeps chickens and ducks and is interested in rural affairs as well as cooking, gardening and crosswords. In 2006 she joined Cycle Cuba, raising funds for Denman College, the WI’s own College in Oxfordshire.
