Winner crowned at Strictly Daventry

The winner of this year's Strictly Daventry dance competition was crowned on Saturday night.

Strictly Daventry 2016, presented by the Kate Fisher Dance Academy, took place on Saturday July 2, at Daventry Leisure Centre.

More than 400 spectators watched Daventry’s Sonya Curtis, director of Kind Minds partnered by Sheldon Kane, win the event.

The trophies were presented by the leader of Daventry District Council Chris Millar.

Judges for the event were All England Dance Champions Ben Milan-Vega and Kerry Dennehy with the winner of UKA Stars at Blackpool Libby Williams.

Organiser Kate Fisher said: “The judges’ scores and audience votes were added together to find the winner and Sonya and Sheldon won both.

“Into second place came Phillip Hands from Ford partnered by Emily Allibone and third place went to manager of The Royal Oak in Crick, Dave Adnitt with Libby Kirk.

“All couples performed one Latin and one ballroom dance each and the audience were also treated to show dances from children from the academy and Ben and Kerry who received a standing ovation!

“£4,500, with money still coming in, has been raised for Friends of Danetre Hospital and Coppafeel.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in this year’s event, all the experienced dancers, the helpers, Everyone Active Daventry Leisure Centre, the sponsors who made it all possible and to the competitors who went from complete beginners to putting on fantastic good quality performances in eight weeks, you are amazing and it’s been a privilege to work with you all.
