THE future of a derelict town centre building has come under the spotlight.
Daventry Town Council discussed the state of the Rectro Bar building in New Street at its planning meeting on Thursday, Janaury 5.
The former Fagins Bar at 2 New Street has stood empty from 1994 until briefly reopening as the Rectro cocktail bar in 1999.
Cllr Lynne Taylor said: “It’s an issue that the town council has been keeping an eye on for a while, and it’s something a lot of us have concerns over.
“It’s a major building on one of the town centre’s main roads, and it’s in the conservation zone.
“It’s one of the town’s oldest buildings but it’s been allowed to get into a bad state of repair.
“It looks so disappointing, particularly if you’re someone not familiar with Daventry and it’s one of your first views of the town centre.
“There seems to be a problem with feral cats around the back, and I’ve seen pigeons on the inside of some of the upstairs windows.”
