Weedon writer Tom MacRae adapts children’s classic Fungus The Bogeyman for Sky1

An adaptation of Fungus The Bogeyman by a Weedon writer and featuring a character from Daventry will be coming to TV screens for Christmas.

Writer Tom MacRae, who grew up in Weedon, has adapted Raymond Briggs’ classic 1977 children’s book Fungus the Bogeyman for Sky1.

Production has just started on the four part series with Timothy Spall playing Fungus the Bogeyman and co-starring Keeley Hawes, Victoria Wood, Andy Serkis and Marc Warren.

The programme tells the story of the underground dwelling Fungus who only comes to the surface to scare humans, known in the book as ‘drycleaners’

In the series comedienne Victoria Wood will star as Eve, an eccentric dry cleaner from Daventry.

The comedy will air this Christmas and also features The Thick of It’s Joanna Scanlan and Game of Thrones’ Paul Kaye.
